{"id":84,"date":"2016-01-07T15:39:12","date_gmt":"2016-01-07T15:39:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.sciences.ncsu.edu\/burrow\/?page_id=84"},"modified":"2017-02-27T21:26:06","modified_gmt":"2017-02-27T21:26:06","slug":"getting-started","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.sciences.ncsu.edu\/curious\/getting-started\/","title":{"rendered":"Getting Started"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Research Mentors<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Any faculty member, staff member, graduate student, or post-doc completing science research at NC State can register as a research mentor on CURiOuS. \u00a0Registered research mentors can post and edit\u00a0undergraduate research\u00a0opportunities. \u00a0Research mentors can also compile and sort student applications for individual positions, and contact qualified applicants.<\/li>\n<li>To register as a research mentor, email <strong>Dana Thomas<\/strong> (dcthoma4@ncsu.edu) if your research has a <strong>biology<\/strong> focus,<strong> Josh Pierce<\/strong> (jgpierce@ncsu.edu) if you are associated with the <strong>Chemistry Department<\/strong>, or <strong>Laura Holland<\/strong> (laura_holland@ncsu.edu) if you are associated with the <strong>Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences<\/strong>. \u00a0They will add your unity ID to the CURiOuS system. \u00a0You will receive an automated email containing a link to activate your account. \u00a0Click on the link. \u00a0IGNORE the\u00a0new user name and password provided by the link. \u00a0CLOSE the link, then reopen it with the normal website url (https:\/\/sites.sciences.ncsu.edu\/curious\/) and log in with your normal unity ID and password. \u00a0You are now a registered research mentor!<\/li>\n<li>Once you are registered as a research mentor, you can sign in to post\/edit positions and manage student applications. \u00a0Go to &#8220;Post a Research Position&#8221; or &#8220;Research Mentor Dashboard&#8221; and sign in with your normal unity ID and password.<\/li>\n<li>To post a research position, go to &#8220;Post a Research Position&#8221;, sign in, and fill in the required fields, and hit &#8220;submit&#8221;. \u00a0There are also several optional fields through which you can add more detail about your research opportunity if applicable.<\/li>\n<li>Click on &#8220;Research Mentor Dashboard&#8221; to view all of your research position postings (students can not see things on this page). \u00a0Next to each position you can see how many students have submitted an application. \u00a0Click on the number to view all applications in detail. \u00a0You can filter students by &#8220;status&#8221; once a position is filled. \u00a0This will alert all applicants.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>NC State Students:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0Go to &#8220;Find a Research Position&#8221; to search all current undergraduate research opportunities. \u00a0You can search for positions by &#8220;keyword&#8221;, &#8220;category&#8221; (science sub-discipline), and by &#8220;credit available&#8221;, &#8220;paid&#8221;, and &#8220;volunteer&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>If you find a position that interests you, please read through the entire posting carefully to ensure that you qualify.<\/li>\n<li>To apply for a specific research opportunity, simply click &#8220;apply for position&#8221;
